A total of 34 teams will take at this year’s Digicel Punjas National Netball Championships which begins in Suva today.

According to Netball Fiji CEO Vivian Koster, the teams will be competing in four different categories.

“We will have six teams in the premier women’s category while eight teams will take part in the senior women’s category,” Koster said.

There will be 12 teams in the 19 and under category while the men’s team will have eight teams battling it out for top honours. Koster says the senior division will be one to look out for.

“In the senior division we have teams like defending champions Ra, Koro and Kadavu so it will be interesting to see these teams from the outer islands and the inland of Viti Levu. They will get an opportunity to display their skill level and show how competitive they are.”

Koster added the tournament is not only about testing the teams in different categories around the country.

“It is the pinnacle of our calendar where the teams get a chance to test themselves against each other. Not only that, but it is also the one time to get together as a netball family as teams from all over are coming in.”

The two-day tournament begins at the National Netball Centre in Laucala Bay, Suva at 9am today.
