Expo promotes network – Fynch

An international buyer says this year’s Fijian Tourism Expo allowed them to unlock quite a lot of things that have been blocked from the past.

Hotelbeds head of sourcing for the Australia, New Zealand and Pacific markets Matt Fynch said it was quite a huge relief to be able to travel to Fiji because most meetings were done virtually in the past two years.

“I have a team that looks after Fiji and I just want to come and to be able to come and bond this relationship is just amazing,” Mr Fynch said.

“For me we have just unlocked quite a lot of things that have been blocked from the past and I think Fiji has grown 2000 per cent in our market in the past six months since 2019 and it’s an area we have got to spend enough time on as a company.

“We just want to continue to build our relationship with Fiji and there are really good signs going forward from here for Fijian tourism.”

Mr Fynch said while the Fijian tourism market concentrated on Australia and New Zealand as its source market, they would love to tap into markets further away such as the UK because they will stay longer and spend more on Fijian properties.

“This is my first time visiting Fiji and I have just met people who are just so friendly and welcoming.

“I have worked in the last 15 years in many Asian destinations and I think Fiji is equal if not better than these destinations.”
