Fiji Airways Fiji 7s rugby side won the men’s title in Toulouse, beating first-time finalists Ireland 29-17 this morning.

Fiji 7s skipper, Tevita Daugunu said “Teamwork in defence and attack was what this victory was built on. We kept the ball well and stuck to our game plan.’’

“To all the Fijians around the globe, this win is for you.”

Meanwhile the Fijiana 7s team had to settle for bronze after going down to Australia in their semi-final match, 31-21.

The Aussies were stunned by an early Fiji try but hit back through Tia Hands and Maddison Levi.

Reapi Ulunisau’s second try of the half gave the Fijians a 14-12 lead at the break but Faith Nathan quickly took the game into her hands as she scored after the break to restore the Aussies’ lead.

Nathan’s second and a Charlotte Caslick try as time winded down secured the victory.
