The Police Blue Rugby team outmuscled Marist 28-3 in the first quarter-final of the Suva Rugby Union Digicel Escott Shield competition at the Buckhurst ground in Laucala Bay yesterday.

Police number 8 Mosese Naiova registered the first points for the men from Nasova in the 15th minute after a good passage of hard running from the forwards with the conversion successful from fly half Rapuama.

Marist fly half Taoba Fatai replied for the men from Flagstaff with a successful penalty from the 10 metre mark in the 23rd minute.

The Police team were awarded a penalty try in the 34th minute after a string of collapsed scrums by the Marist front row with prop Sevanaia Vunimoce shown a yellow card.

Dangerous tackling reduced the men from Nasova to 13 late in the first half.

Police lead 14-3 at half-time. Naiova, probably one of the standout performers for the lawmen, crossed over for another try early in the second half and another successful conversion from Rapuama.

In the 69th minute, Naiova crossed over in the right corner with the try converted by fullback Sebastian.

Marist was reduced to 14 men in the 72nd minute with substitute prop Tadeo Vulaca penalised in the scrum.
