Government must recognise that the private sector is a critical driver for economic growth.
President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere highlighted this while delivering his address at the opening of the 2023-2024 session of Parliament this morning.
He said the private sector needed freedom and flexibility to perform their aims but they must operate within the law and respect the environment.
“Government must put into place necessary measures so that there is level playing field of certainty and consistency of policies that will boost confidence across the board,” Ratu Wiliame said.
He said Government would work in partnership with all stakeholders, which included the private sector, trade unions, civil society organisations and traditional institutions to grow and diversify the local economy.
Ratu Wiliame said to do that, Government would have to get its economic house in order.
